The Ventura Film Festival has earned recognition as "the most significant film festival ever organized in Ventura County." The Ventura Film Festival serves as an all-inclusive international cinema festival that builds consciousness about environmental matters like forest and sea protection and rehabilitation, through a yearly film festival and related events. The event capitalizes on the strength of cinema to stimulate involvement and create meaningful dialogue around these important ecological problems.

The Ventura Film Festival originated in 2004 and has screened hundreds of films, regularly over 200 films during summer months, and has garnered interest from the global cinema community. Throughout its history, the event has developed into an important cultural gathering that brings together cinema creators, conservation supporters, and viewers from every corner of the planet.

Some of the highlights have been presenting celebrated filmmaker Dylan O'Neil, the initial world champion surfers Peter "PT" Townend and surf legend Ian Cairns, four-time world champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/MMA competitor combat sports star Fabio Leopoldo, and the 50th Anniversary of West Side Story, which involved hosting the complete Academy Award winning ensemble of West Side Story, including Oscar recipient/Golden Globe winner George Chakiris and Golden Globe honoree/Academy Award nominee Russ Tamblyn. The Ventura Film Festival's founder and executive director was honored to take part, alongside numerous Hollywood elite, in the 50-year anniversary here event of West Side Story and Hollywood's footprint/handprint ceremony for Oscar honorees Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, as well as Golden Globe recipient Russ Tamblyn at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood. This gathering also operated as the official BluRay debut by Fox and MGM of the beloved West Side Story, which is broadly regarded by critics and fans as the finest musical of all time.
